Thanksgiving Fun

I had big plans for this week. I wanted to try some homeschooling activities with Pixie-Girl. Her body, on the other hand, had a different way to spend the vacation! Last night we spent in the ER. Fever, nausea, vomiting, fun. She has a UTI. Antibiotics are on board and I hope she is feeling better tomorrow, but so far, she is still sleeping it off.

Big plans...here are some of the activities I was and still am planning to try.

Tomorrow we will be making turkeys. Bean turkeys and leaf turkeys. I think these are some quiet activities Pixie-Girl can possibly handle sometime tomorrow, even if I have to gather the leaves myself. We will also be making hand-print turkeys, probably as a piece of art for the mantle to be used year after year!

A beautiful table centerpiece designed by the littles...Pixie-Girl and grandson Super-duper Boy! You can see the gorgeous idea here . I am so excited to take a gathering walk with the two littles, possibly I will have to take two walks but that's ok, too. Our oldest daughter is hosting Thanksgiving, and I am giving this as a gift to her. I want to share some beauty into her life. She works very hard and takes little time for herself, but she trulu deserves some beauty in her life!

Another activity I have planned is a Thanksgiving Day Scavenger Hunt. This is an awesome opportunity to walk off the turkey, or send the kids out with grandpa to get them out from underfoot. there is a lovely Scavenger Hunt List to print here or you can make your own.

As we complete the projects, I'll post pix here...do you have activities in mind for your Thanksgiving week?

Back From the Dead

I"M Baaaaaa-aaaaaaack! I had hoped to make this the summer of the blog, but fate handed us a nasty turn of events. Things are rolling along, momma has started the chemo after having a hysterectomy and is doing well thus far. She went back to work yesterday!

Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Denton have returned from their honeymoon and seem to be enjoying married life. Bekah is growing like a weed and started 2nd grade, got the teacher she wanted and is rolling along. Nick has an awesome girlfriend and is playing softball this fall. Grandma is holding her own, much sweeter now since she has people around to keep up with her daily activities for her, such as taking her meds, getting dressed and bathing.

So I am going to attempt to return to building up things here and here. Stay tuned for many projects this fall and the yard haunting begins in earnest next month!

The C Word

How is it that my momma went from hiking to the top of the world at Diamond Head, Oahu, Hawaii to being unable to eat, having surgery to remove her gall bladder, having a tumor on her ovaries discovered(never mind the gall bladder) and being told "You have ovarian cancer" all in less than a month?

Why am I STUCK IN TENNESSEE, unable to travel to her in WYOMING to take care of her or even help her with the PEAS??? I am just barely holding it together as I write this and mosey through the day to day. I can't seem to move beyond being on the verge of tears and the smallest things are breaking that surface tension like touching a raindrop balanced on a leaf.

Surface Tension from stormpix.net

Later y'all, can't talk about it any more today...

Good-Bye Sweet Annie

Annie, you came to us on a cold, stormy, November night. We drove home and gave you a bath and its been an adventure ever since!
Your happy spirit kept us all going when things got bad. Your smile was always there, every day!
Your love of pizza and fried chicken was famous! How many did you steal from over the years?
Say hello to Shorty and walk close by his side. He will take good care of you!
I love you still and will miss you forever.
Good-Bye, Sweet Annie....
Love, Sherie

A few days ago, when I was in the midst of a down moment, the florist called to say that she had some flowers for me. She couldn't quite find the house so I directed her. I was quite surprised because I knew of NO reason to be receiving flowers. Not a holiday, my birthday, or anything else. No, they weren't from my hubby, who was the only person I could imagine sending me flowers for no reason.

My fantastic "newish" friend S sent these because she was thinking about me. Wow...just wow. I am so grateful that S took the time from her busy day to think of me. But that's not all! Another "newish" friend, M, called to invite me to lunch yesterday. We had a fantastic time getting to know each other better and finding out that even though we are different, we have a lot of the same difficulties within our families. M lifted me from the midst of a depressing, gray day and gave me the energy to make it through the rest of that grayness.

Thank you Lord, for blessing me with such wonderful, kind and supportive friends, just when I needed them the most!

Let a friend know you are thinking about them today, pray for a friend, and invite someone to church this week!

Blackberry Winter

According to Wikipedia, "In South & Midland North America, Blackberry Winter is referred to as a period of cold weather as low as -6 °C (20 °F) in late spring when the blackberries are in bloom. This is generally in the month of May and is known to last approximately up to 14 days.

Prior to technological advances in meteorology, farmers would use such terms to know when to plant certain crops. Blackberries must have a cold snap to set buds on the blackberry canes. It comes with a somewhat less severe return of a continental polar air mass after the maritime tropical air masses have begun to dominate the weather. So, there will be a cold snap when the blackberries bloom, called Blackberry Winter and it is traditionally the opposite of Indian Summer in terms of seasonal shifts."

And "In Tennessee dogwood winter and blackberry winter are two separate occasions. Dogwood being first and blackberry a couple of weeks later."

This is usually one of the last cold snaps to hit us and we always wait until May 5th to plant flowers. Today we have had the first day of Blackberry WInter 2012! It began at 36 degrees this morning and spitting snow! The blackberries are definitely blooming, and Dogwood Winter was about 2 weeks ago...so we're right on time!

Tonight we should see some temps in the low to mid 30's with a wind advisory, and tomorrow's high only around 58, a departure from the daytime highs we have been experiencing here in the last few weeks!

Life Slapped Me In the Face

It's amazing to see how your life can be turned upside down in one short instant of time. How you can see, on the other side what you did or didn't do that caused the calamity. Every decision that you make, no matter how small, has the potential to begin an avalanche that no one can stop. Although I cannot divulge the details, suffice it to say that it was one of the worst things you could possibly imagine short of cancer or death. It's incredible to me the range of emotions that I have experienced in just 3 short days. I suppose I should bury myself in the Word and pray, but I am finding it difficult to turn my face in that direction. I am experiencing a huge burden of guilt and I cannot seem to shake the gloominess that has descended on me. For now I am just trying to take it one moment at a time.
