Ugghh! Snow Day!

Okay...today was the laziest snow day we have EVER had. Although Rebekah popped out of bed at like 7:27am and hasn't stopped since, and DJ got up right after her...they have played well together all day, made up lots of crazy games, watched a couple movies, let mom sneak in a nap and generally been pleasant all day, I am just up to my eyeballs in boredom. I have done laundry, worked on my Girl Scout website, hunted down some school projects that relate to the project I want to do in my Business Law class and organized my coupon binder, I just feel like a slug. I didn't even take any pictures of the bit of snow we did get. Maybe tomorrow morning I will get up early and take Old Annie for a photo walk...IDK, it's supposed to be like 12 degrees tonight!

Maybe I just need to call it a day, turn in early and begin anew tomorrow which holds the promise of a better day! Bek and I are headed here to a Glamour Makeover and Tea Party at the Avon Beauty Center. I think it will at least make me get up, showered, dressed, made up and out the door early! Maybe we will stop off to visit Grandma on the way! I'm excited about the day and I hope it works out!

365 Project Day 9

We awoke yesterday morning to torrential rain. The garden and backyard were floating. I found this little lost duckie playing in the puddles...

to get away from the camera!

365 Project

I usually don't have the wherewithal to complete a project such as this. I am going to jump in, both feet first, to a photo project. At least one photo of everyday life on the Hillcrest, EVERY DAY! Today, I will be posting 5 because I am late starting, although I did post on New Year's Day! Today...THE HAT!

Silly Hat

Old Hat

New Hat

Happy New Year Hat

Sleepy Hat

Super husband says hats keep your head warm, if you're a farmer you wear a farming hat, if you're a policeman you wear a policeman's hat, if you're a cowboy, you wear a cowboy hat, if you're a football player, you wear a football hat, if you're a tinkerbell, you wear a tinkerbell hat.

Rebekah says hats are crazy, and they look funny, they cover your head from rain and mean stuff. Hats go with scarves, that cover people's heads in Mexico.

I think hats tell your story...uniform hats, medical hats, Peacock feather hats
You can find this one here

Put a hat on your head and give yourself a story!

Bravery and my Grandma

I found this:

"Captain, my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me." He added, after a pause, looking me full in the face: "That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave"- Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson

over here and began thinking...how true that is. As I start into the new year, I am met with the need for bravery as I contemplate the coming of my grandmother's death. Lately I have been strangely detached from the situation, after years of being thrust into the middle of it. At present she resides in a nursing home, and is slowly spiraling downward as do all Alzheimer's victims.

Once I pulled myself away and forced myself to deal with the guilt of not being there, then came the time when she most needed (and needs) me. So, dear readers, my main goal for 2012 is to spend even a tiny bit of time with her each day. She once was my life, my friend, my confidante, and my shopping buddy.

We began shopping when I was just a tiny girl, "shopping" for "groceries" in the yard, to prepare on my tiny dishes....
Like these "wild strawberries" to play with and not eat!

I accompanied her every other Friday to Kroger's for grocery shopping, and I still use the same pattern through the store that she did.

Grandpa would drop us off at Pittman Plaza on his way to work and we would shop, eat at the S&W cafeteria, shop some more, then walk home.
Pittman Plaza 1950's

She sang...she danced...she taught me about flowers and beauty,
lipstick and hairbrushes, roses and petunias.

She would get on her hands and knees to scrub the front porch for us so we could play with our baby dolls and Barbie dolls there, hidden from the street by her Nandina hedge. Such a nice, cool place to play on a hot summer day!
Grandma had the best dress up dresses, the coolest bedrooms in the upstairs, with the windows thrown open and the curtains stirring in the wind, we watched thunderstorms pass, played cards, watched crazy movies on late night TV like Godzilla, ate peanut butter and Ritz crackers and popsicles. We didn't know how special those times were until we grew up, I wish we had them back. I love you grandma and I am trying to make it back to you before it's too late.

Love,
Leesha

A New Year's Adventure!

Today dawned sunny and warm, 51 to be exact, so we decided to go on an adventure. We dug out all the coats, hats and gloves we haven't used in a month, a quilt or two and loaded them into the Yukon. Then we stopped for fuel, saw an old friend we hadn't seen in YEARS, and headed up into the mountains.
Dakota celebrated his 14th birthday today, in the mountain air!

It was lovely, windy, sunny, and then it rained as we headed back down to the "flatlands"
Sweet little smile

A tiny bit scary at first

Yes...that's a huge smile!
And yes, that is a mud puddle at the bottom!
